Top 7 Tips to finding the best Wedding Videographer
Your wedding should be a day you remember forever, for all the right reasons. Make sure you capture all those perfect moments, by finding the best wedding videographer for you and your partner. Before hiring anyone, here are some tips to think about.
1) What style would you like?
It helps to already have an idea of what you want to see in your wedding video. Would you like a documentary style, where all of the footage is spontaneous, capturing moments as they happen?
Or portraiture, where people are carefully positioned and each shot is perfectly staged?, where shots are more artistic? Read through some wedding magazines and look online to get some ideas, and to show your potential videographer.
2) How is their Portfolio?
Weddings are an ambitious project for any videographer, so you need to see if they can work under that pressure. Make sure you see some examples of other weddings they’ve filmed. You can get an ideal of their skill and style, and also see whether they match your personal tastes and wedding theme. You’re hiring them for a job, so it’s not too forward to ask for references.
3) Know what you want
A common complaint we hear is that special people close to the couple weren’t featured in the video. Draw up your own shot-list of what you want to see, and what must be included in your wedding video. Do you want the groom’s expression when he first sees the bride? Maybe the first dance is especially important? The best way to avoid disappointment is to plan out the important shots beforehand.
4) Set up an Interview
Make a shortlist of candidates and talk to each of them face-to-face. Make sure you your personalities mesh, and that they can deliver what you want. Have questions prepared like; how good are you organising large groups of people? Can they digitally retouch footage? Do you get the raw video? How long will your video be? Is there a travel charge? How will you receive your video and how long will it take?
5) Compare Packages
Have an idea of how much you’re willing to spend, and how much coverage the videographer will provide. You’ll probably want them with you all day. Packages vary from 4-8 hours, covering getting ready with your bridesmaids through to filming people mingling at the end of the service. Staying until you make your grand exit from the reception might be extra. It’s usually better to pay for more coverage than be stung with an overtime fee. Make sure they’re upfront with exactly what they will provide for the agreed-upon price.
6) Know Your Rights
Check the contract before you sign. Some state that the videographer reserves the rights to all footage, or that they’re allowed to use them on their company website or social media. Others will only let you post content digitally watermarked with their logo on your Facebook page. Know what you’re entitled to beforehand to avoid a legal battle afterwards.
7) Make a Booking
Once you’ve made your decision, don’t wait around. Make sure you’ve booked them and ask them to confirm. You don’t want to wait until the last minute, only to find someone else booked them before you. Plan ahead so you don’t miss out.
